Body Cameras - Innovative surveillance that you can wear

body cam bannerOver the past few years, a need has been identified to record interactions in day-to-day dealing with law enforcement officers. This has led to a rise in the use of wearable recording devices, like body cameras, by police forces worldwide. The forecast for shipment of body cams is 1.59m in 2018, rising to 5.62m in 2021, so this trend is set to continue. Smart technologies, procedures and training are poised to change the way law enforcement officers, among others, interact with the public – with a view to reducing the amount of violent clashes between them.

Rugged, wearable body cameras record activities of citizens and civil authorities as they happen. They are designed to be portable and easy to use, so they do not get in the way of day-to-day operations.  The 110˚ lens and recording resolution of 1080pixels/30frames per second means that they can capture incidents clearly and effectively.

Beating traffic jams with intelligent video technology

beating ITSAcross the world, many urban road networks are already saturated. This causes long delays for drivers, increasing frustration and reducing productivity. It also creates major public health risks due to poor air quality. Together, the effects of excessive traffic negatively impact city dwellers’ quality of life and the sustainability of cities.

According to one study from INRIX, a leading provider of transport insights, Los Angeles commuters spent over 100 hours a year in traffic jams in 2017 – more than any other city in the world. Additionally, London traffic jams cost drivers the equivalent of £2,430 (USD$3,135) each, equal to more than £9.5 billion (USD$12.3 billion) across the city as a whole.
